In 1885, the pharmacist Emile Giffard invented the Menthe pastille… Through research into the invigorating, refreshing and digestive effects of mint, he came up with the idea of ​​making a fine, white liqueur from it. He followed the zeitgeist and successfully met the taste of his customers. He converted his pharmacy into a distillery and named the liqueur Menthe-Pastille, a reference to the mints of the time. The company has remained a family business ever since, based near Angers in north-west France and specializing in the production of liqueurs. Giffard produces Menthe pastilles, «Crèmes de Fruits», liqueurs, Guignolet and syrups.
